Colonoscopy Preparation

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a procedure used to examine the large intestine. A flexible camera, called a colonoscope, is used to identify or correct a problem in the colon. The colonoscope will take streaming video of the procedure and help the doctor look for irregularities. An open channel through the scope will allow for other instruments to be passed through it, allowing the doctor to remove polyps, perform biopsies and inject fluids when needed.

To Prepare for a Colonoscopy:

The best results come from a colon free from feces. We ask that you do not take any Aspirin such as Motrin, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Naproxyn or iron pills for 7 days prior to the test. If you must take a pain reliever please take Tylenol TM. Please see your doctor for further instructions.

YOU MAY NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOODS THE DAY BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE. You will be expected to drink A Lot of clear liquids the day before your procedure. Starting in the morning you need to drink plenty of water through out the day.

SAFTEY OF OUR PATIENTS IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. IN ORDER FOR THIS PROCEDURE TO BE PERFORMED, YOU MUST HAVE A RIDE HOME. YOU WILL NOT BE DISCHARED FORM THE ENDOSCOPY FACILITY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ADULT DRIVING YOU HOME, OR ONE WILL ACCOMPANY YOU IN A TAXI OR SOME OTHER FORM OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.
